I am honored to have been appointed President of the Fulbright Alumni Association of Japan. On taking office, I would like to offer a few words of greeting.
First, I extend my sincere gratitude to our former presidents and officers, who have worked to advance the Association, and to all members who support its activities. I am especially grateful to Professor Yoshiko Kojo, my predecessor, whose leadership strengthened the Association through public seminars, hospitality programs and many other initiatives. Building on that strong foundation, I will work to develop an alumni association suited to a new era.
For many years, the Fulbright exchange program has contributed to mutual understanding and the development of people in both Japan and the United States. As the international community undergoes profound change, the importance of networks that cross national borders continues to grow. Precisely for this reason, we will support international exchange among younger generations and strengthen connections among Fulbright alumni active in Japan and around the world.
A sustainable Association also requires a stronger financial foundation. We will communicate the value and appeal of Fulbright more widely, encourage donations and fundraising, and improve operational efficiency so that limited resources are used effectively. We will also deepen cooperation with the Japan–United States Educational Exchange Promotion Foundation, clarify our respective roles and pursue a more effective structure for joint action.
We will build an organization that makes the fullest use of the diverse experience and expertise of our officers. By clarifying roles and responsibilities and enabling each person to act with initiative, we aim to create a more energetic Association. I hope that every member will also draw on their own experience and networks and participate in whatever way they can.
The spirit of mutual understanding and international exchange fostered by the Fulbright Program over 80 years will become even more important in the years ahead. Together with all of you, I will work to ensure that the Association continues to grow as a place where members connect and new endeavors can begin. I respectfully ask for your continued support and cooperation.
